Going Analog in a Digital World

I inherited an old 35mm camera from my Mom while on a visit home for the holidays.  The camera is a Hanimex Praktica super TL that was manufactured in Germany in the late 60s and 70s.  It took a little coaxing and reassuring but Mom finally gave in to letting me “borrow” it.  She knows it’s in good hands.

I took a pic of the camera with my hipstamatic app on my phone for you to enjoy here:

After finding online and carefully studying the manual, I was off to the streets to shoot away.  I am really enjoying shooting on film.  Each picture takes a little more concentration, set-up, etc.  Unlike the digital world with it’s instant gratification and disposable nature, film has to be cherished.  You have only 36 exposures to a roll and each picture needs to be carefully planned out.  The gratification while shooting film comes from the careful planning and “meditative like” procedures in getting the exposure, framing, focus, and subject just right.  It’s just like Christmas morning when the time comes to finally develop a finished roll of film….
